Our Story
Since 1815, Walter Bull & Son has been part of Cirencester’s rich history, serving generations of families with fine jewellery, exceptional service and traditional values. What began as a local goldsmith's workshop has grown into a trusted family-run business, rooted in craftsmanship, care and connection. Our story is woven into the town we call home, and continues to evolve with each special piece we create, restore or help you discover.

Where It All Began
Walter Bull & Son’s roots trace back to early 20th-century London. The original shop stood on Theobalds Road, run by Walter Bull - a trusted pawnbroker, jeweller, and community figure. He wasn’t just a businessman; he was a known and respected leader, eventually appointed Chief Commoner of London. His shop was a place of discretion and dignity, where people came not only to buy and sell, but to feel looked after. From engagement rings to family heirlooms, each transaction was built on trust.

The Blitz and Rebuilding
In 1941, everything changed. During the Blitz, the original London premises were destroyed. Years of work and history disappeared overnight. But this was not the end of Walter Bull & Son. Like many families during that time, the business adapted. The family relocated to Horsham, quietly continuing their trade. The physical shop may have been lost, but the values — craftsmanship, honesty and service — were carried forward.

Finding Home in Cirencester
In the years that followed, the family brought the business to Cirencester, where it began a new chapter. Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, the shop became a fixture of the town — a place where generations returned for birthdays, anniversaries, engagements and restorations. Over time, Walter Bull & Son grew not just as a name, but as part of Cirencester’s fabric, offering personal service that remained as important as the jewellery itself.

A Family Tradition
From its very beginning, Walter Bull & Son has remained family-run. Each generation has brought its own vision, but the heart of the business has never changed. It’s still about care — not just in the jewellery we offer, but in the relationships we build. We’ve worked with customers through life’s most meaningful moments, and often with their children and grandchildren too. That continuity is something we hold dear.

Looking Ahead
Today, we continue the story with pride. As jewellery styles evolve and technology offers new ways to connect, we remain grounded in the values that shaped us from the start. Whether you're stepping into our Cirencester shop for the first time or returning decades later, we welcome you as part of the story — and we look forward to helping you tell yours.
