Jewellery Care Guide
Jewellery is more than just beauty - it’s memory, meaning, and legacy. This guide shares trusted advice from our workshop to help you preserve the beauty of your treasured pieces, from heirloom rings to everyday favourites.

Caring For Your Pieces
Even the most beautifully made jewellery will show signs of wear over time, especially when worn and loved daily. To help preserve your treasured pieces, we recommend inspecting them regularly for subtle signs of strain - such as loose claws or settings, weakened clasps, worn links, or fine fractures in hinges and lockets. These early signs often go unnoticed until something breaks.
Pearls, in particular, can show fraying where they're threaded, while white gold may gradually lose its plating with regular contact against skin or fabric. Vintage and antique items, due to their age and intricacy, often require even more attentive care.
By spotting these details early, you can prevent more serious damage. Our workshop team is always on hand to advise and carry out careful repairs, helping to keep your jewellery looking beautiful, and feeling secure, for years to come.

Organic Gemstone Cleaning
Cherished for their natural beauty and vibrant colour, organic gemstones such as pearls, coral, and amber require especially delicate care. With the right approach, these materials can retain their lustre for generations to come.
Because of their softness, they should not be submerged in water. Instead, gently clean using a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn residue, use a gentle brush and ensure the piece is dried thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
Avoid steam cleaning, boiling water, ultrasonic machines or direct heat, including hairdryers, as these methods can cause irreversible damage.
Recommended Cleaning Method
To clean safely, use warm water with a small amount of mild washing-up liquid and a soft-bristled brush. Avoid using firm bristles, which may scratch the surface. For temperature-sensitive gemstones like malachite, we recommend using cool water to reduce risk of damage.

Diamond Cleaning
Renowned for their brilliance and durability, diamonds are the hardest natural material on each, yet they are not immune to wear. They can be scratched by other diamonds and may chip or fracture if knocked. Oils, cosmetics and everyday grime can also dull their natural sparkle overtime.
We recommend storing diamond pieces individually in fabric-lined cases ore soft pouches to prevent contact with other jewellery. This helps avoid scratches, particularly when travelling or storing multiple items together.
Recommended Cleaning Method
To maintain their clarity, soak your diamonds in warm water with a mild degreasing solution, a couple drops of washi9ng-up liquid is ideal. Gently clean with a soft-bristled brush. Avoid bleach, harsh abrasives or ultrasonic cleaners at home, as these can damage delicate mounts or loosen stones. For deeper cleaning, we recommend a professional service.

Gold Jewellery Care
Gold jewellery naturally loses its shine over time as it gathers traces of dirt, oils, and fingerprints. With the right care, it can be gently restored to its original lustre.
If your piece contains gemstones, we recommend following the gemstone-specific guidance earlier in this guide to avoid accidental damage.
For plain gold, soak the item in lukewarm water with a few drops of mild washing-up liquid for around ten minutes. Gently brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush, including intricate or hard-to-reach areas. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
As gold is a soft metal, avoid abrasive materials or excessive pressure when cleaning. With thoughtful care, your gold jewellery will retain its beauty for years to come.
Silver Jewellery Care
Silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air, but with regular care, its beauty can be easily preserved.
To slow tarnishing, we recommend storing silver jewellery in airtight pouches in a cool, dry place. Remove rings and bracelets before washing your hands, as moisture and soap can accelerate tarnish.
For cleaning, use a specialist silver cleaning solution or a polishing cloth with anti-tarnish agents. For a deeper clean, soak the piece in warm water with a few drops of washing-up liquid. Gently brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a lint-free cloth.
With the right care, silver jewellery will maintain its lustre and elegance for many years.
